Leaving Las Vegas, the scenery got better and better, (as the temperature got higher and higher). We had no idea what surprises were in store...........
The day Harley & Joyce headed back home was our day to see the Grand Canyon. We really didn't know how long it would take to get there but figured 3-4 hours tops. (Took a wee bit longer than that!) We decided to visit the North Rim after much discussion with friends and others who had been there, (including a real nice couple we ran into at a flea market here a week before we left. She had a Grand Canyon shirt on so we thought we'd ask if they'd been there and they gave us a great rundown.) So we plotted our trip on the map and off we went...
As we got into Utah we saw that we needed to take Route 9. Seemed pretty direct and would get us right where we wanted to go. On the map it looked as though we'd have to go through or near "Zion National Park"...we had no idea what that was, but that was ok. If it was a park, we thought we'd probably enjoy it. Let me tell you, Zion National Park is so beyond anything we've ever seen. This is a park with sky high rocks that look like they literally touch the sky, with the road running all along the sides of the mountains. It's so difficult to describe what an awesome place it is. We just sat there going 15-25mph, (you have to, very twisty and turny), in total AWE. What a great surprise this turned out to be! Needless to say, it took a LITTLE longer to get to our hotel in Mount Carmel, Utah, than we expected.
Snoops was hoping to see Spike but we were told by Harley that Needles was to be avoided at all cost. Poor Snoops. Here he is next to a Joshua Tree, the closest thing to a Saguoro cactus we could find....well, until the airport. I'll explain that later. :)
