"SOAPY"
Birth date: May 1, 2000 (Taurus)
Soapy came to us in what is becoming a routine way for kitty arrivals here -- she showed up in the driveway/yard. Same as with a lot of the others, we were putting the dogs out one evening and there she was, under Herb's truck, just sitting there looking a lot like she does in the picture above. I looked at her, she meowed but stayed there. Of course, in my head I am thinking, "oh no, not another one." But I didn't say that so as not to hurt her feelings. I bent down and said hello and she came trotting over to me, very affectionately rubbing and purring. This was the beginning of December, 2007, a time when, in Oswego County, NY, you have to be heartless to turn away a stray animal.
Soapy was a very stinky, dirty little kitty which I'm sure that had to do with being neglected. Whatever home she had lived in before us was not a caring, loving home. Her teeth were neglected and her diet had been poor. So we took her to the vet to be spayed, which it turned out she already was, and to also have some dental work done. She ended up having about four teeth pulled because they were just too rotten to save. The vet also discovered she had already been missing four or five. Who knows what happened to those, whether they had been removed or just fell out from being rotten. But she now is fangless, she had one when we got her and had to have the other removed. When we got her, she was drooling a lot and had one really runny eye, which we suspected was because her mouth was sore. But now after surgery and medication, she is a very well-groomed kitty and even smells good, no bad breath and no icky-looking fur!
"Of all God's creatures, there is only one that cannot be made slave of the leash. That one is the cat. If man could be crossed with the cat it would improve the man, but it would deteriorate the cat."
