"TONY"
Aka: Toons, Tuna Fish, Bucket of Tuna, (and lots of variations on the "tuna" theme.)
Birth date: September 12, 1991 (Virgo)
As you may have noticed, the name of this page is actually "Tony", which is the name he started out with. But that then turned into "Toonces" and then to "Toons". Some days he's lucky enough to be called "Tuna Fish" but most of the time it's just "Toons".
He's had quite a colorful little life since he became a member of the Zoo. When we first discovered him in the summer of 1999, he was laying out in the grass in our front yard. I couldn't quite make him out, didn't even know what it was. I walked out and found a kitty. This is a common occurence here, as we live in the country. This particular kitty didn't look too well so I took him in and fed him and gave him some water. Toons was a very sick kitty and if we hadn't taken him in, he probably would have died. We thought he was a relatively young cat but after taking him to our vet and then Cornell University Animal Hospital, we found out he was more like 8 or 9-years-old. And he had kidney disease. He is the second cat we've had with this so we knew what we were in for. (Miss America was the first.) Tony is now in his fifth year with kidney disease. He gets 200 ml. of subcutaneous, (under the skin), fluids a day and tolerates that quite well.
Before we decided to bring him in as a house cat, he was in our garage and was let out every day. And he was quite the little fighter. If you met him today you would never believe that. We used to find him at the barn down the road engaged in many a scuffle. Today, he is a very mild-mannered little kitty who likes nothing more than to eat and sleep and occasionally bat a kitty ball around the floor. He gets along with Synge, Kristofur & Joey Bear but steers clear of the Menace, Stormy. He loves Dad and Whisker Lickin's.
For more information about cats and kidney disease, this is a really informative web site...
"Of all God's creatures, there is only one that cannot be made slave of the leash. That one is the cat. If man could be crossed with the cat it would improve the man, but it would deteriorate the cat."
